Much Gameage (Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 6:44:16 PM)
[Post a Comment]

I'm posting this from Erastos' place. We've spent the whole afternoon plaing a LAN game of Serious Sam--much fun.

I haven't got to play SW: KoTOR as much as I would like to this week. I had an idea while driving to work on Monday: They should make a Star Trek RPG game. Specifically, they should make it so that you start out as an Ensign, fresh out of Starfleet Command School. You would then slowly work your way up through the ranks, transferring to a new ship every so often. By the end of the game, you would become Captain of your own ship. Of course, some special care would have to be taken when creating the story for the game since it would have to take place over the course of several years.

I have FINALLY, after all these years, gotten Metroid for the NES. I found it today at a local used video game store called GameXChange. I've wanted this game since around 1988 or so.

More Star Wars (Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 7:25:25 PM) [Post a Comment]

I am losing lots of sleep thanks to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. As expected, the game went from blah to awesome! once my character became a Jedi. The best part? I got to build my own lightsaber! With a blue blade! [Hallelujah chorus in the background] It's like I'm getting to live a childhood dream within the confines of this humble video game.

Does anyone remember those big plastic lightsaber toys they made back in the 80's? The ones with the holes in the top of the "blade" that would simulate the low-pitched lightsaber hum when swung through the air. I wish I still had mine, but those things wore out and broke way too easily.

A small suprise this weekend: We somehow got back a refund from our state taxes, which is ironic considering the ridiculous amount we had to pay on our federal taxes.

Well, I turned 30 on Sunday. I did not enjoy doing so--I feel like I'm getting old. :(

One good thing--I got Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for my birthday. After about 8 hours of downloading game patches and updated video drivers, I finally got the game to work. It's ok so far. The game will probably pick up somewhat once my character becomes a Jedi. I also got the Digital Press classic Collector's Guide. I've now been able to get an approximate value of my collection of old video games.

Carolaina's dad spent the weekend with us. He fixed a few things around our house and tried to sell some of his wooden yard furniture. I remembered to cook breakfast for him & us this time!

Woah, haven't updated in a while. It's not that nothing is happening, more like the opposite. Been very busy.

On Monday, Carolaina came home with a new phone that has caller id and digital answering machine features. I wish I could say that I had fun programming the thing, but it was just blah. It had the most annoying ring-tone enabled by default, though. I really, really hate those cellphone ring tones. It just goes right along with the rest of the typical loud American rudeness: "Look at me, I have a loud and annoying cellphone! Oooh! Let me hold intensely personal conversations on it in extremely public places!" So, anyway, the first thing I did with this phone was to reset it to something approaching a normal ring. I also used AT&T's Natural Voices demo to create our answering machine message. I used the British female voice of Audrey, naturally.

I've become interested in a site that I've known about, but never really took much notice of before (happens to me all the time). It's a "cartoon" site called Homestarrunner. Especially check out Strong Bad's emails.

More Metroid Madness (Saturday, March 13, 2004 - 12:29:03 PM) [Post a Comment]

I came to the end of Metroid: Zero Mission without even realizing it. I thought: "That's it?! That's all there is?!" This game was way too short. The story (short as it was) did at least set up the planet Zebess as it appeared in Super Metroid. That made this game feel more like a prequel when I finished.

At least it still has a bunch of hidden items. I'd say this game has much more of it's items hidden, and hidden very well. My "Metroid sense" for hidden areas tingles a lot in this game. I'm now going for 100% item completion rate and it's getting really tough. The last few items are protected by some extremely mind bending, fast reflex puzzles--and I thought some in Super and Fusion were hard. They've got nothing on Zero Mission.

I've rambled on more than I intended and I'm hungry. Getting lunch.
