photos from the wedding (Monday, October 11, 2004 - 12:31:42 PM)

As I mentioned last time, Carolaina and I had a great time up in Wichita, Kansas at her cousin Ryan's wedding. We both just loved the town and how easy it was to get around. The wedding itself was extremely beautiful and wonderful. As promised last time, here are some of the photos:

Wichita, KS (Sunday, October 10, 2004 - 9:55:02 AM) [Post a Comment]

I'm posting this from up in Wichita, Kansas. Carolaina and I came up here for her cousin's wedding. Right now we're about to make the 8-hour drive back down to Searcy, AR.

Her cousin, Ryan Schnitzer, is responsible for bringing us together. You see, he was my roommate for a while back when I had my apartment. Carolaina had called to talk to him while he was away on spring break, and ended up talking to me. Our relationship took off from there.

Ryan and his fiancee, Leslie, got married in her grandmother's backyard. I know this sounds simple, but they had the placed set up very nicely. I took lots of photos with Carolaina's digital camera.

I couldn't get online using my laptop and the hotel's wireless internet access, so I'm having to use the hotel's small computer lab. I'll post some of the photos when I get home or on Monday.

lots of stuff (Friday, October 1, 2004 - 6:01:23 PM) [Post a Comment]

You may have heard by now that Mount St. Helens erupted a little bit this afternoon. I managed to grab a photo off of the official webcam while it was happening. It seems to have quieted down by now, though. I just love modern technology--I get to watch something like this in near real-time.

I'm finally going to get a haircut this weekend. Carolaina thought it would be neat if I got my hair styled like my character in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. She seems to think that the parted-on-one-side look isn't "modern" enough. [I'll try and post the screenshots I took for Rose at Mike's Salon in Hot Springs to work from and edit them into this blog entry later.]
Update: Here's the screenshot images: [front] and [back]
I just can't stand my hair to have any kind of length to it--it's so nice to not need a comb or brush and just palm my short hair in place. It gets uncontrollable with any kind of length at all.

I'll also be getting an alignment done on my car's tires before we head down to Hot Springs. Maybe I can get them to also replace the spark plugs while they're working on it.

I've been playing a lot of Neverwinter Nights lately. I really enjoyed Chapter Two since it was out in the open and out of the drab, enclosed environment of the city of Neverwinter in Chapter One. Well, what do you know, Chapter Three is stuck inside the hostile city of Luskan! Argh. At least Chapter Three appears to be short. I seem to enjoy playing outdoor, ranger-type characters.

School Trouble (Monday, September 27, 2004 - 12:48:04 PM) [Post a Comment]

I didn't exactly distinguish myself to Carolaina this weekend. I played Neverwinter Nights all day long on Satuday. I finally stopped around 9:30 in the evening when I hit a brick wall: a super high level Lich-Mage that was buried in the old Luskan mortuary. It seems he was one of the infamous Brotherhood of Luskan--a band of evil mages that runs that town. I'll have to level up my half-elf ranger quite a bit before attempting to take down that nasty lich.

It should be official by now: Carolaina is leaving her teaching job at Liberty Christian School. They will finally release her from her job on October 15th, at the earliest. The reasons are numerous, but here I will just say that they would do little to stop an abusive situation coming from one of the other teachers in her interactions with Carolaina. All the rest of the crap going on up there could have been dealt with if this one situation had been kept in check, but it seems they'd rather keep a really bad teacher instead of a great one like Carolaina.

We rented some movies this weekend. Amoung them were: Hellboy and Whale Rider. Hellboy is ok. Actually, come to think of it, it's really great for a comic book movie. You may not think so with the recent successes of the Spiderman movies, but it's so easy to make a bad comic book movie. Ron Perlman was absolutely perfect for the role of Hellboy.

Whale Rider, though, is magical. You MUST see this movie. I like one thing Roger Ebert said in his review of this movie: "There is a vast difference between movies for 12-year-old girls, and movies about 12-year-old girls, and 'Whale Rider' proves it." Don't let the PG-13 rating scare you--this movie should have been rated G. It's getting to the point where you just can't trust movie ratings anymore. Read the reviews and decide for yourself if a certain movie is good or not.

Really Good Weekend (Monday, September 20, 2004 - 12:19:57 PM) [Post a Comment]

I met up with my old friend Anthony this weekend. I haven't seen him for 7 or 8 years at least. We spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other again. We also went over to Thackerland to check out Atari stuff (more on that in a bit). He also showed me the creation tools that come with the Neverwinter Nights game. It seems creating your own mods for the game is much easier than I thought. Mostly, though, we talked about getting back into Dungeons & Dragons.

While at Thackerland, I found that Coach had some new stuff. Amoung them was a rare game called Ram It. I found out later that day that (according to AtariAge) it's a rarity of 7! I've finally gotten a rare find worthy of some of the high-level collectors that frequent that site. You can see my post (plus picture) about it on their forums. Even though I've only been collecting for a few months now, I'M ALREADY UP TO A 7!!! [Deep, mad-scientist laugh]

Man, this post is already really long. I should rename my Mini-Blog--it has never really been as "mini" as intended, oh well.

Anthony will be really glad to know that I've gotten back into playing Neverwinter Nights. I had stopped because I had lost interest and couldn't figure out/didn't want to figure out what to do next. Turns out it was pitifully easy. I've gotten past the Blacklake district in Chapter One and am now going after the Docks district to find the last Waterdhavian creature. I really hope the game picks up after the first chapter and I get to explore more than just a drab colored city.

Since Anthony and I are planning on starting up D&D again, I've been thinking about what kind of character to create. I've read debates before in online D&D communities about choosing unfamilar class characters so you can actually "role play" instead of choosing a character with abilities and feats that match the kind of person you are or would like to be. After giving it a lot of thought, I realized that it doesn't matter. Dungeons & Dragons is really all about just getting together with your friends and having a good time. It doesn't matter what kind of character you have, as long as you get to have a good time with your friends.
